Last week was the kind of week where time slowed down just enough to let me appreciate the stillness between life’s demands. I’ve found myself savoring more—especially the mornings, where I sit on the patio with a warm mug of coffee in hand. The breeze is crisp now, just enough to remind me that fall has arrived in Mississippi. I watch the sunlight dance across the grass as the animals start their day, and I breathe in a peace I didn’t know I needed.
These slow mornings have been a welcome contrast to the busyness we’ve had over the last few months—moving across the country, settling into the farm, transitioning into a new rhythm. And this last week, in particular, offered a gentle reminder that the simple things often hold the most joy. Lately, I’ve felt those moments more deeply.
Jim, having just recently committed his life to Christ and preparing for baptism, has been intentional in the way he shows up for our family. One of my favorite things he did over the weekend was hanging my antique Italian chandelier in my home office. He tackled the chandelier project in my office like a seasoned craftsman, even though it was unfamiliar territory. That small gesture—seeing my beloved antique chandelier lit up overhead—meant more to me than I can say.
Earlier in the week, I watched as he helped Roslynn with a big school project. The two of them laughed, made a mess, and brought creativity to life right there at the dining room table. Their teamwork brought warmth to the house, and it filled my heart to see them enjoying each other.
The girls have also been settling in beautifully. There’s been more laughter around the house, more moments of connection, and the animals—especially our dogs—have been soaking up the calm just as much as we have. Ava has taken to guarding the sheep like it’s her life’s purpose, and Honey has found a new playmate in Cooper. Archie even seems calmer, enjoying belly rubs as he rolls on his back.
Evenings have been cozy. We talk more. We linger. We rest. There’s something so sacred about those ordinary moments that require nothing but presence.
This season of life—one filled with change and growth—has taught me to slow down enough to see the beauty in the mundane. Morning coffee. A chandelier hung with love. A school project completed together. These are the moments I want to remember.
So, here’s to more quiet weeks. May we never overlook the beauty found in the simple things.
